Set up classes, arms and subjects

Build the structure everything else hangs on.

  1. Open Academics → Classes & Structure and choose Create New Level (for example JSS 1).
  2. Inside the level, add arms (A, B, C).
  3. Assign a class teacher to each arm.
  4. Open Academics → Subjects and define the subjects for each level.

You can also rename, add and delete classes and arms under Settings → Academic Settings → Class structure. A class or arm that still has students in it cannot be deleted. Move the students first. Class teachers are set under Teachers → Class & Subject Assignment.

Terms and the academic calendar

Your term dates, how they start out, and how they follow the calendar.

When your school is activated, Lumbyte sets up the standard Nigerian school calendar: First Term from 10 September to 15 December, Second Term from 10 January to 5 April, and Third Term from 25 April to 20 July. Open Academics → Academic Calendar to change any date so it matches your school's own calendar.

  • A term can be at most 14 weeks long.
  • Terms cannot overlap.
  • The current term follows the calendar by itself. On the day a term starts, it becomes the active term. You do not need to switch it. Scores, attendance and invoices belong to the active term.
  • You never run out of terms. If your calendar has no term after the one you have paid for, Lumbyte adds the standard dates for the next one, which you can then edit.

Your subscription follows these dates, so keep them accurate. See How terms and payments line up.

Enter scores

How teachers record continuous assessment and exam marks.

Each subject is marked out of 100: first test (10), second test (10), project or third test (20) and examination (60).

  1. Open Grades & Results (teacher) or Teachers → Score Entry (administrator).
  2. Choose the term, class and subject, then Load Students.
  3. Type each student's marks and save.

The total and grade are worked out for you.

How grades are given

The grade scale used for every class.

  • A: 70 and above
  • B: 60 to 69
  • C: 50 to 59
  • D: 45 to 49
  • E: 40 to 44
  • F: below 40

The same scale is used by score entry, result computation and report cards, so they always agree. You can see it any time under Settings → Academic Settings → Grading scale. It is shown for reference and cannot be edited there. If your school needs a different mark split or scale, send us a request through Support Tickets.

Compute results and rank students

Turn scores into totals, grades and class positions.

  1. Open Academics → Result Computation and choose the term and class.
  2. Run the computation. Totals, grades and positions are produced for every student.
  3. Review them in Results Management and in Ranking & Positions.
  4. In Results Management, review each student and press Finalise. Finalised results are locked and cannot be edited unless you unlock them.

Print report cards

One card, or a whole class at once, as paper or PDF.

Open Academics → Report Cards, choose the class and term, and preview a student's card. Use Print for one student or for the whole class. In your browser's print window you can choose Save as PDF instead of a printer.

Upload results from a spreadsheet

Bring in scores you already have.

Open Academics → Results Upload, download the template, fill in the scores, and upload the file. Lumbyte lists any rows it could not match so you can fix them.

Performance analytics

See how a class is doing, from real scores.

Under Academics → Performance Analytics, choose a term and class to see the average score, pass rate (40 and above), grade spread and subject rankings. Everything is calculated from the scores that have been entered.
