How parents get an account

Added when a child is enrolled, or on their own from the Parents menu.

There are two ways to add a parent, and both end in the same place: a parent account with its own sign-in.

  • While enrolling a child. The first step of Students → Add Student is the parents. Find a parent who is already on record, or add a new one.
  • From the Parents menu. Open Parent Portal → Add Parent, fill in the details and link the children who belong to them.

A new parent is emailed a temporary password and must choose their own the first time they sign in. If the same parent has several children at your school, all of them appear under the one account.

Two parents, one parent or none

A child can have up to two parents or guardians on record, and neither is compulsory.

Some children live with both parents, some with one, and some with a guardian. Lumbyte lets you record what is true for each family.

  • A child can have a first and a second parent or guardian on record. Neither is compulsory.
  • Each parent has their own account, with their own email and password. Both can sign in and see the child's results, fees, attendance, learning, notices and messages. Messages, notices and reminders reach both.
  • To record both parents, add each of them and link the same child to both, or choose both while enrolling the child.
  • A child with no parent can still be enrolled. The student's sign-in is shown to you once so you can hand it over, and a parent can be added later.
  • If a child already has two parents and you link a third, Lumbyte asks you to confirm. Continuing replaces the second parent. The first stays.

On a child's profile, Parents and guardians shows both parents side by side, with their phone, occupation, employer and address.

A parent's full details, address and identification

What the school can record about each parent, and who can see it.

Open Parent Portal → Parents Directory and choose a parent, then Edit details. The school can keep:

  • Personal details: title, full name, gender, relationship to the child (father, mother, guardian and so on), occupation and employer.
  • Contact: email (their sign-in), phone and a second phone.
  • Home address: street, town or city and state.
  • Means of identification: the type (NIN, voter's card, driver's licence, international passport or other), the number, and an optional uploaded copy as a PDF or photo.
  • Emergency contact: a name and phone number for someone the school can call if the parent cannot be reached.
Identification is private. The number and the uploaded copy can be seen only by school administrators. Teachers, students, other parents and other schools cannot open them.

Add a child to a parent, or link one that is already enrolled

Start from the parent: register a new child, or link an existing one.

  1. Open Parent Portal → Parents Directory and find the parent. Search works on the parent's name, email and phone, and on their children's names.
  2. To enrol a new child, press Add a child. The enrolment form opens with this parent chosen. Fill in the child's details and submit.
  3. To link a child who is already enrolled, open the parent, find Or link a child who is already registered, search for the child and press Add.
  4. To remove a link, press Unlink beside the child. The child stays enrolled, and any other parent stays linked.

The search shows who each child is already linked to, so you can see at a glance whether a child has one parent, two or none.

Reset a parent's password

Send the parent a one-time link. You never see their password.

  1. Open the parent in Parent Portal → Parents Directory.
  2. Press Send reset link and confirm.
  3. The parent's old password stops working and they are emailed a one-time link to choose a new one.

This is the same as for teachers. See Reset a teacher's password.

Remove a parent

What happens to their children and their records.

Open the parent and choose Remove parent at the bottom of the page, then confirm. This deletes the parent's sign-in and any identification copy that was uploaded. It cannot be undone.

The children stay enrolled. If another parent is linked to a child, that parent stays and becomes the first parent. If not, the child simply has no parent on record until you link one.

What parents can do in their portal

Results, fees, attendance, notices, messages and support.

  • Dashboard: children, outstanding fees, recent results and school notices. If both parents have accounts, both see the same children.
  • My Wards: each child's class, latest scores and fee status.
  • Results Access: term scores, with a print button.
  • Fees & Payments: view invoices and pay online by card or bank transfer.
  • Attendance: attendance rate and recent days.
  • LMS Access: homework and deadlines, missing work, quiz results, announcements and live class times.
  • Messaging: chat with the class teacher or the school office.
  • Support Tickets: ask the school for help.
  • Account Settings: change your phone number (the school uses it for fee reminders and results), choose how you are related to your child, see your children, and change your password. To change your name or email address, ask the school office.

How parents pay fees online

Pay an invoice by card or transfer and get a receipt.

  1. In Fees & Payments the parent finds the invoice and chooses Pay.
  2. The amount shown includes a small online processing fee, which is displayed before paying.
  3. The parent pays on the secure payment page.
  4. The invoice is marked paid and a receipt is available.

The school's share goes to the school's own bank account. See Fees & payments.
